Day 2.5 – Alls well…

•July 1, 2008 • 1 Comment

As we composed ourselves, we heard noises at the door and immediately readied ourselves for another skirmish. Luckily, that is not what had taken place.

Apparently, our last battle took longer than expected and the mayor thought us unsuccessful, so another team was sent out after us. It was a rather bossy lady with horns and a rather dark man. (I don’t know how else to describe him. Even on looking back, I know so little about him.) He announced that the mayor had sent them, and the large one was glad for the assistance as he moved past them to explore more.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure of the decision (especially when the bossy lady’s nose… well, I think it was her nose, crinkled up a bit a the first look of the large one) but I wasn’t about to go against his decision, so I moved along silently behind him.

We came across a large door with a hole in it, so the large one threw his shield inside. We tried to get a good view through the hole, but didn’t quite manage, so the lady with the horns took her hammer to the door enough for us to fit through. The large one had some difficulty, but I think the lad with horns purposely kept the hole smaller.

The shield was retrieved and the large one lead us around the bend, until we found what was making the slight noise in here: a large white dragon.

(oh, as a note, apparently, it wasn’t that large, I was told later it was only a baby dragon, but it was much bigger than I am, so for the purposes of recounting…. LARGE. WHITE. DRAGON.)

The large one and the lady with horns stepped up as they spoke the dragon’s language. Maiyeahe and I gave each other shrugs while we heard all the hissing and grunting between the parties, and only hoped that we all could come to an understanding… but no such luck. The way they stepped back to join us indicated I needed a spell on my lips quickly.

If I thought the little creatures were tough, this one was even worse. This dragon was intelligent enough to know who to take out and how to focus his attacks. I quickly learned that my Ray of Frost was going to do very little against him… and I also learned my assessment of the “lady in horns” as being “bossy” was terribly correct. She didn’t actually do much herself, but she powered up my sister enough that Maiyeahe got in some really great kidney shots and such that finally put us as the victors.

We regrouped, the large one prayed, the taller man healed us up. We were still doing really well as we moved across the hall to search some more. I had noticed immediately that this doorway appeared different from the others and announced we should search for traps. We found them, and luckily enough I was able to disarm them, only to find something akin to an armory. The large one and Maiyeahe opened up trunks to find a bunch of cloth (some of which I took to fashion myself a new robe.) and unfortunately, still being on my high horse about spotting the other trap, my guard was down for this one. It exploded on all of us and I got a rather nasty glare from the lady in horns.

We continued moving on and found a rather large room which must have been the living space for the smaller creatures. The children were spotted and we immediately sprung into action to free them.

We noticed one of the creatures powering up the others, so we all targeted him, to take him down first so he’d no longer be able to. Once that was accomplished, the others went down easily and Maiyeahe was able to free the children with some of her great lock-picking skills.

On the way back to town, I made the comment that despite some of our obvious differences (I really tried to not look at the lady in horns and the large one, but I’m sure they knew it was directed at them…) we really did work well together, and that we could really make a living out of traveling and doing odd jobs for people.

It was agreed upon and introductions were made. The taller man who had been kind enough to heal us, was a Cleric who was called Eyad. The large one was a paladin (which is much better than my earlier thought of “monk” or some such) known as Drakken. The name made my sister giggle a little, which was understandable. His name did sound very much like the creature he resembled.

The two that joined us were a human Warlock known as Devron, and the lady in horns is known as Selestina. She’s very trained in military stuff and is known as a Warlord. Which I suppose, gives her the right to tell us what to do. I’ll admit we were more organized under her direction…

All in all, it was a prosperous evening. I managed to find a new orb to direct my abilities, and the cloth I picked up turned into a very nice blue robe. I am thinking of using some of the reward money to buy a horse for Maiyeahe’s birthday, but we shall see…

Day 2: The Worst is yet to come…

In the morning, we came down for breakfast and noticed the remnants of our game and decide to pick it back up while we dine.

The Captain of the Guard wandered in and was staggering around a little.  I made the comment that it was a little early, which caused my sister to giggle with me for a moment until I cut her off abruptly.  The large one that we assisted last night had stood up slowly, purposely and strode over to him.

We couldn’t hear what they were saying, but the large one jabbed his equally large finger into the man’s chest a few times until he was in our line of sight enough where we could see how WIDE those eyes of his were.  I made a comment to my sister to not tick off the large one and she nodded silently in response.  The man finally fled upstairs at which point the mayor came back out, saying he’d have to cancel the festival if the town’s missing children weren’t found.

Children were another matter entirely, and my sister and I were of one mind that we must assist.  The large one was going too, stating he’d found out from the man the location of what could be a camp of the same sort of creatures that we came up against last night.  The taller skinny man also joined us and I could see that my sister was pleased with that.  (I think she may have a bit of a crush on him.)

We’d found some tracks leading toward the river and followed them until we came across a clearing where the little creatures had made a camp.  We didn’t see any sign of the children, but we did notice a cave just behind them, so the challenge would be to clear the way to the cave.

I noticed the watchtower, and pointed out to the others that it was going to tip them all off unless we did something about it.

The large one noticed it looked rather unstable and suggested he could ram it over.  So to provide a distraction, I threw up a sound that would have indicated one of the creature’s brethren was in danger.  He turned to look and the large one barreled in and managed to knock down the tower, flinging the creature to the ground.

This attracted the attention of the other two nearby who also joined in the fray.  My sister was always the clever one of the two of us and managed to sneak behind them.  The four of us, handled the three of them quite readily… so it was time to clear out the rest of the camp  which also, didn’t take that long. There was a few battle cries about defending their candles… or… about us taking them… or something?  I am not sure, but I thought it odd.

I’ll be the first to admit it, the cave was very creepy.  Darkness and myself never truly got along, so I cast a light on the large one’s shield.  (He was leading the way anyway, so it was only logical that would be the object held out in front to shine the way.)

The first two rooms heralded very little, but I still found my hand clasped around the amulet at my neck, silently praying for protection for us all.  What in the world had we gotten ourselves into?

The next room wasn’t as pleasant as the two non-eventful ones.  This room contained another barely able to hold the leashes of two very large lizards, upon seeing us, he let the leashes go and ordered them to sic us.

I will not lie, it was the most horrific battle I’ve ever faced.  I was deathly afraid for myself and my sister, and I just prayed we’d make it out alive.  We did, and just barely.  We took a moment to compose ourselves, get healed up and such because we still weren’t done.

But I really wish we were…

Selestina: Background and Personality

•June 29, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Personality:
Struggles with her bloodlust.  She feels that the best way to be accepted into society is to act as humanly as possible by protecting the weak and fighting against the forces that made her.  She does not believe in fate, but rather fights against it, fearing her own downfall into demonic activities.

She refuses to acknowledge other tie flings, unless they have proven to have the same ideals.  She is also very prejudiced against Dragonborn.

Background:
- Learned from Retired, veteran Warrior the ways of the Warlord when she was thrown out by her parents for loving a human.
- She made all of her weapons by hand.
- Worst Event: At 15, she was disowned by family for seeing a human boy of the same age.  She was left with nothing and since then, refuses to return home.
- Best Thing: Freedom from Infernal teachings
- Family: One brother determined to murder her.  Does not keep in touch with any other relative.  Holds little regard for her ancestors

Day 1: The Beginning

My sister and I had heard of a festival that was going to be in a nearby town known as “Redwood Village”. Festivals were always fun, so we diverted our path to that direction. We arrived a day too soon, so after requisitioning our rooms we headed to the main level of the Inn which also served as a tavern.

We knew we generally caused a big stir in places like this, especially when alcohol was present. Not that either of us were terribly big drinkers, but… it just seemed like we tended to get on the nerves of those who did.

When we did have downtime that involved a flat surface, we were in the process of creating a game that as of right now, we are calling “Ekundayah” an Eladrin term that roughly translates into common as “Ohh! Shiney!”

However, the game was interrupted when the tavern owner announced there was trouble outside and was offering money for fixing it. I was hesitant, but when Maiyeahe jumped at the chance… well… the game was no fun by myself.

We were joined by a very tall slender man that had sort of this inspiring presence about him. The other man that had bounded out the door first was… LARGE. There is simply no other way to describe him! He was tall and stocky… and… I think he could rip my arm off if he tried! Well, I was glad to note that he was on my side, instead of against us.

We rounded the corner, and the large one was the one who spotted them first. He muttered something under his breath that I didn’t recognize before charging into battle. My sister and the tall one joined in soon after, but I hung back. I knew I was most powerful when there was no chance of me getting hit in return.

Soon enough, my hands were up and speech dripped from my lips before bursts of purple energy shot forth from them, headed for it’s intended target. At least I was decent enough aim to maim them enough for the others to take them out. (The large one BREATHED on them! I mean… can you imagine?! We are saving all the spicy foods for him to consume from now on.)

Once the skirmish subsided I had noticed the creatures had stolen things from the nearby houses that I sought to return to them before we noticed villagers running away from the local blacksmith. The large one started moving in that direction, so the only smart choice would be to follow him.

We ran into a few more of the same kinds of creatures, but one seemed more trained than the other. The battle was a little quicker this time, as we were beginning to learn the strengths and weaknesses of each other, and soon enough we found ourselves on the receiving end of a lot of hearty congratulations and thank you-s.

That was the part that I always enjoyed (though, we did all receive a hefty sum of gold as well, something else I can appreciate greatly) and we all settled in for the night. Maiyeahe and I in our traditional trance pose of sitting cross-legged, back to back so nothing can get to us.

Personality: Izotza

Izotza is a Tiefling Scourge Warloc, the following is her personality check.

Social Interactions:

Of course they required her services. Didn’t mean she was going to willingly go along with it. They had tried to hook her in with the whole… crusade thing, but she knew better. There wasn’t anything that wasn’t worth fighting for to some person or another. What business was it of hers?

Decision Points:

A fist slammed down on the table as she looked up at them with a look of steel. They didn’t understand. She would do it, but it wasn’t for the prestige or the honor or whatever it was they were using as thir selling points… she had her eye on the bag of gold that dangled in such a tantalizing manner from it’s owner’s belt…

Dire Straights:

“COME ON PALADIN! IS THAT THE BEST YOU CAN DO?!” she bellowed as she lifted the head of the unconscious foe at her feet up by the hair and slit it’s throat to be sure that the job was done before firing off another spell at the foe closest to her. More than one replied to her attack so more followed in rapid succession. She would be the one walking away from this tonight.

Personality: Lycentia

•June 15, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Lycentia An’Dais is an Eladrin Wizard who is the sister to Maiyeahe. The following is her Personality Check.

Social Interactions:

A soft smile touched her lips as she slipped into the seat. She’d received the message that her services were needed, and while she wasn’t sure exactly how the meeting would go, she knew she needed to at least hear them out. She could decide what to do later. After all, of her and her sister, she was the more level-headed of the two.

Decision Points:

She let out a long sigh as she leaned back in her chair. It was going to be rough. How could she say yes or no right now when the decision was going to affect so many? She obviously understood why they were asking, and why they needed the assistance… but it just wasn’t going to be as straight-forward as they thought it would. Her sister wouldn’t have any difficulty with circumventing the rules, but here was that little… twinge of regret in her every time she needed to.

Dire Straights:

Ok – so it wasn’t a great idea and she really should have known better. But with blades ringing in the air really wasn’t the time to thing of that.

It was things like this that made her glad her magic came with a wide range to it. She really couldn’t think of being able to do anything while looking a foe directly in the eyes.

First thing I’m going to put up are a little background on both of my girlies. A little about them, but also a study I like to call “Personality Check” it’s just a few sentences describing a situation while at the same time answering the questions found on pages 23 and 24 of the Player’s Handbook.
